Version 1.7 last updated on 2025/03/04 17:41:32
We understand that the use of an automated tool such as Installator can raise questions about security and privacy.
As a general rule, because Installator is a part of the CADP software, its use is covered by the CADP Software Agreement. In particular, we decline any responsibility, liability or warranty about this software (this would go far beyond the missions of public research institutes).
However, we claim that Installator has been designed to help users installing the CADP software quickly and easily, and certainly not to steal their files or damage their computers.
To the best of our knowledge, Installator is a "trustable" tool and, unless unexpected mistakes or inadvertant programming errors, we expect that:
- All the actions performed by Installator have for sole purpose the installation or upgrade of the CADP software.
- Installator will only execute on your current machine and, if explicitly required, on the other machines for which you request a license.
- Installator will not modify other files than:
- The directory in which the CADP software is installed or have to be installed (if the CADP software has been installed on your machine previously, the environment variable $CADP should refer to this directory);
- The temporary directory "/tmp" (most Installator files are stored into two directories named "/tmp/Installator" and "/tmp/_shXXXXX");
- The temporary directory referred to by the environment variable $CADP_TMP (or "/tmp" if you have not set this environment variable before invoking Installator);
- Installator will not send any information out of your site, except:
- HTTP/HTTPS connections to our server "cadp.inria.fr" (or FTP connections to our server "ftp.inrialpes.fr") to inquire about the latest version of the CADP software available and to download it. These connections will be logged, as all incoming connections to these HTTP/HTTPS or FTP servers.
- Prototype license files sent to "cadp@inria.fr", a copy of each will be also mailed to you.
Should you disagree with this policy or have persistant concerns about the automated installation procedure, please choose the manual installation procedure instead (details available from
here).
